Where Threshing Day sits in the Empyrean series and why the publisher recommends reading it after Onyx Storm.
The main Empyrean novels are best read in publication order:
- Fourth Wing
- Iron Flame
- Onyx Storm
Threshing Day is a companion collection, not the fourth main novel. Publisher materials state that while it can function as an introduction, it contains spoilers for events already established in the trilogy and is therefore best read after Onyx Storm.
It does not advance the central Violet–Xaden plotline and is not required for understanding the next main book when that title is released. Readers who want only the core story can skip the collection without losing continuity; readers who want deeper background on the named riders’ bonding days will find the thirteen stories useful context.
